M.2 ssd not showing up in bios

Hello! I (relatively) newly developed a PC that provides two m.2 960 EVO drives. One of them is not getting here at all. I am making use of a STRIX Z370G micro-atx board. I check out on ASUS' webwebsite that "the m.2_1 socket shares bandwidth with SATA_1 port when utilizing M.2 SATA mode device. Adsimply BIOS settings to usage SATA gadget. " I'd say I am somewhat computer system savvy, however I might really use some aid right here. Thanks in advance!

So I freshly built a brand-new rig myself and also I uncovered something interesting with m.2 drives. Unbeknownst to me at the moment of ordering whatever, many motherboards that have actually 2 slots have them dedicated to various types of m.2 drives. Tbelow is a PCI-E m.2 drive and a SATA m.2 drive. Doubleinspect your motherboard's user manual and make certain you don't have actually the drive plugged into the wrong slot. If it just has actually one slot then make certain you didn't order the wrong form of drive. Apparently they are not cross compatible, PCI-E just works through PCI-E and SATA just works through SATA.

This is the closest answer yet still not rather correct. Tbelow are 2 M.2 slots. One of them just speaks the nvme language and also the various other speaks both the nvme and also sata languperiods. In your bios you need to make sure that the mode is in nvme pcie mode. This was your mistake, so fix this and you should be collection.

Thanks for the reply. I changed the mode to PCIE mode, however the drive still will not display up in file explorer. It is current in both BIOS and device manager though.

Try doing an optimized settings recollection on the BIOS. I had this same issue a couple of days earlier and a couple of resets and also running optimized settings somehow made it re-appear aacquire.

Can you clarify- is the M.2 drive not showing up in Windows or is it not appearing in the BIOS?

If choice 1 you will certainly must make certain the drive has been included via the gadget manager (conventional exercise once you have actually 2 drives). If choice 2 then I’d recommend updating the BIOS and also view if that helps. Option 2.1 maybe clear the CMOS initially by rerelocating the battery. Option 2.2 try swapping the drives to see if that renders a distinction.

Also- can you confirm you don’t have actually anything plugged into the SATA 1 port?

I’m sensibly familiar through the Asus Z370-e Manual, and ultimately purchased the Maximus Hero X bereason it was on sale.

I’d recommfinish you head over to the Asus ROG forums if you don’t gain a solution right here. The community is reasonably energetic, and also better suited to answer vendor specific details on motherboards.

If you usage M.2, a details sata port is supplied for it on some mobos. If you then plug a drive in that sata port you will certainly invoke dark sillicon magics that will prevent the M.2 from working.Plug your drives in a various sata port to cancel the sillicon spell of bug summoning.
